Accessibility at

Coburg Commons

We aspire to make it easy for neighbors of all mobility capacities, sensory processing differences, and chemical sensitivities.

This page is intended to answer your questions about what to expect when visiting as they relate to common accessibility needs. It is regularly updated.

Please let us know if any additional information may be helpful on this page, or improvements we can make in our operations or facility.

What to Expect

    • Our accessibility ramp and entrance is on the south side of the building, where most of the parking is.

    • All publicly-accessible parts of the building are wheelchair-accessible. The only place not wheelchair-accessible is the stage in the Event Hall.

    • Single-use restrooms are not large but have a grab bar.

    • Bookshelf aisles are six inches wider than ADA requirements.

    • A clerk will be happy to help you access books beyond your reach upon request.

    • Restroom soaps are unscented.

    • Bookstore clerks do not wear cologne or perfumes.

    • A small friendly dog is often behind the desk, leashed securely. He occasionally barks if he is surprised, but otherwise is quiet and cool.

    • Music is played quietly but can be changed or quieted upon request.

    • The Bookstore entrance on the east side of the building has a bell on top of the door that rings when the door opens and closes. Tape can be applied to the clapper ahead of time upon request.

    • Almost all light sources are indirect and not particularly bright. The brightest lights hang off the top of the book shelves and point at the books.

    • There are no strobing or flickering lights.

    • No current store clerks speak ASL or spoken languages other than English.

    • If you know someone who can volunteer an on-call ASL-fluent store clerk, please let us know through the contact form.

    • Your service animal is welcome inside Coburg Commons.

    • Because the bookstore is carpeted, the clerk may offer a towel to dry your service animal’s paws off on rainy days.
